HUCBMS Equality & Diversity Statement

HUCBMS Equality & Diversity Statement

The Heads of University Centres of Biomedical Sciences (HUCBMS) organisation is committed to ensuring equal opportunities in the life and biomedical sciences, and supports diversity and inclusion throughout higher education, in training, and in the workplace.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

We are a signatory of the Science Council's Declaration on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion. This means that we promote pro-actively a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion within our discipline by:

  • Appointing a HUCBMS Executive Committee level diversity champion who, in partnership with the other executive committee members in our organisation, will advocate the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Equality and Diversity is a standing agenda item for meetings of the HUCBMS Executive Committee agenda.
  • The Executive Committee is accountable for improving practice and communicating our diversity strategies to our membership and other stakeholders.
  • Planning and implementing a programme of work to embed the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into our current organisational policies, practices and behaviours. We will also seek to enhance the equality of opportunity in our activities as a professional/learned body.
  • Measuring, assessing and reflecting on our progress annually.
  • Sharing these outcomes with the HUCBMS membership and supporting the collective progress of Royal Society of Biology Member Organisations through joint learning and sharing good practice.
